Pinty Buster PCP Air Pistol (.177) Review: Budget-Friendly Power from Bench to Field
The Pinty Buster PCP Air Pistol in .177 caliber is built around a simple but highly effective concept: deliver regulated performance, usable power, and real modularity at a price point that makes sense.
Unlike many budget PCP pistols that are limited to backyard plinking, the Buster is engineered to bridge the gap between range performance and field utility—making it a viable tool for pest control and small game hunting, including cottontail rabbits in ranch environments.

Regulated System: Consistency You Can Actually Use
The inclusion of a regulated air system is what elevates the Pinty Buster above most entry-level PCP pistols.
- Stable velocities across the first 20-shot string
- Minimal point-of-impact shift
- Better shot-to-shot repeatability

The manufacturer notes that while the pistol can deliver up to ~40 shots, the first 20–25 shots are where peak consistency lives. Beyond that, velocity begins to taper—something you’ll notice both on the chronograph and downrange. We tested and used the Crosman Premier 7.9gr pellets for both testing and hunting out in the field.

25 yards
For real-world use, especially in hunting scenarios, this matters:
You’re not guessing where that pellet is going—you know.
Power & Shot Feel
- Top Rail: Optics (red dots, compact scopes)
- Bottom Rail: Lights, lasers, grips, or bipods
This flexibility allows you to configure the pistol specifically for:
- Low-light pest control
- Precision bench shooting
- Mobile compact stealth hunting setups
The Pinty Buster does have the 1/2″ UNF threading out front to mount a wide variety of moderators to quiet the report. Without a moderator this little pistol is LOUD with the amount of power it produces coupled with the short barrel. We used a 0dB brand that still keeps the gun short and provides enough moderation to bring the noise down to a more friendly backyard level.

The Pinty Buster does include two 9 shot rotary style magazines, single shot tray, users manual, oring kit and fill probe.

I do not ever like fill probes, the reason being they tend to sometimes get misplaced amongst all the other airguns I use on a regular basis. I will say that they at least incorporated a male foster into the probe to eliminate the need for any adaptors like is common with many other brands. (Note) If you do have the pistol outfitted with a moderator it will be required to remove it to gain access to the fill port as the cover needs to slide forward.

The trigger on the Buster is not what I would call match grade but still for a single stage it surprised me with how predictable and light it was compared to guns costing so much more.

For ranch work, adding a compact optic and light transforms this pistol into a highly effective close-range tool. For me I sometimes find many of the available pistols on the market to have very small grips, the Buster fit me like a glove, and I would say is more catered to larger hands. The safety was very easy to navigate with my thumb, and everything felt very well placed.

Taking the Pinty Buster PCP Air Pistol in .177 caliber off the bench and into a real hunting environment is where this platform proves its value. To truly evaluate its effectiveness, Marley and I headed out to a large working ranch, a perfect testing ground with varied terrain and ideal cottontail habitat.
This wasn’t a controlled test—this was real hunting, where performance, handling, and shot execution matter.

Ranch Conditions & Hunting Strategy
The ranch featured exactly what you’d expect from productive rabbit country:
- Debris piles
- Old farm equipment
- Fence lines
- Thick grass transitioning into open clearings
These structures create natural cover zones, and cottontails consistently stage in these areas. Our approach was methodical—working the perimeter fence lines slowly, scanning for movement and listening for subtle movement.

Marley, as always, proved invaluable. She’s an exceptional recovery dog and plays a major role in ensuring every shot results in a clean, recovered animal.
The first opportunity came quickly.
Along a fence line, I spotted a cottontail roughly 15 yards down an embankment, tucked in tight near cover. This is exactly the kind of scenario where a compact PCP pistol shines.
- Stable position
- Clear line of sight
- Minimal obstruction
The Pinty Buster delivered a precise headshot, dropping the rabbit instantly. Marley was on it immediately and completed a clean recovery.

This moment highlights what the platform does best:
Controlled, accurate shot placement at realistic hunting distances.
Transition to Open Terrain

With one rabbit in the bag, we continued along the fence line and moved into a more open field environment.
Here, conditions changed:
- Taller grass reduced visibility
- Rabbits were only visible in small clearings
- Light levels began dropping as evening set in
This is where equipment either becomes a limitation—or an advantage.

The factory open sights on the Pinty Buster performed exceptionally well in low-light conditions.
- High visibility sight picture
- Fast target acquisition
- No reliance on electronics
As movement increased with the evening activity window, the pistol remained quick to deploy and intuitive to shoot—a major advantage when opportunities appear and disappear quickly.
Second Shot: Stretching the Distance

The second opportunity presented itself at just under 30 yards—pushing the upper limit of what most would consider practical for a .177 air pistol.

Positioning wasn’t ideal, and closing distance wasn’t an option. This required:
- Confidence in the platform
- Precise holdover judgment
- Clean trigger execution
The result:
- Another perfect headshot
- Immediate dispatch with a visible backflip reaction
At that moment, it was clear:

The Pinty Buster is capable of delivering decisive performance beyond typical expectations, when paired with proper shot placement.
Handling & Ergonomics in the Field
One of the most noticeable advantages throughout the hunt was the left-side mounted sidelever.
- Allows rapid follow-up shots
- Maintains shooting grip
- Minimizes movement between shots
This is a functional upgrade over traditional bolt systems, especially in dynamic hunting environments.
- Solid build quality with clean machining
- Balanced feel in hand
- Compact and easy to carry over distance
Practical Critiques
No platform is perfect, and a few details stood out during extended use:
- Rubber grips: Functional, but could be improved—wood grip options would elevate the platform significantly
- Fill port access: Requires removing the moderator, which can slow down quick refills in the field
These are not deal-breakers, but they are worth noting for serious users.
Value Proposition:
At a price point of approximately $260.00, the Pinty Buster delivers:
- Regulated PCP performance
- Real hunting capability
- Solid construction and reliability
- Modular adaptability
In today’s market, that positions it as:
One of the better values in budget PCP air pistols—especially for field use.
Final Verdict
The Pinty Buster PCP Air Pistol (.177) proves itself where it counts—in the field.
This isn’t just a range toy. It’s a legitimate small game hunting tool capable of:
- Clean, ethical dispatches
- Consistent shot placement
- Reliable operation in real-world conditions
Paired with disciplined shooting and realistic expectations, it performs well within its intended role.
Two cottontails in the bag by nightfall—and a solid confirmation that this pistol earns its place in a hunter’s kit. Enclosed is the full video documentation of our experience with the Pinty Buster as well as the link to purchase. Use code MSA15 at checkout:
